Content flow
Day 1: Previous knowledge testing and introduction
The lesson will be introduced by showing a video to the students  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2dtorOw714
On the basis of the video shown the teacher will ask a few questions.
v  As per the video what does the first three alphabets of the word family stand for?
v  The first school for a child- _____________
v  What does the clip talk about?
v  Recall any two words shown in the clip which defines the concept family for you.
v  In the clip you saw a few children who don’t have families, what do you think is their life different from yours? If yes, how?
This as a base the teacher will elaborate on the concept of family.
The teacher after discussing the concept of family will then enlighten the students about the bonds and relationships that exist in a family through a game of family tombola. This will also enable her to test the previous knowledge of the students about family relationships. (Refer the annexure for details on the game)
Home task: The students will be asked to make a collage by pasting the pictures of the special moments spent with their family. (like picnics, birthday celebrations, festivals, special occasions celebrated in the family)
Day 2: Importance of a family
The teacher through creating different situations (simulations- these will be real life situations which the children confront on daily basis) in the class and by showcasing an advertisement (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFzTl3NZtsQ) will discuss the importance of a family in our life.
A few question and answers will be discussed and written
Home Task: The students will be asked to read Pages 1 and 2 of the lesson.
Day3: Key terminology and situational analysis
The teacher will develop the vocabulary of the students. And through situational questions further clarity would be given to the students on the concepts like adopted, natural and foster child.
Day4: Types of families
The teacher will open the session by asking a few students to state their surname and family type. This will act as a warm up session and also a recapitulation tool.
The teacher will then through a geo will explain the types of families that exist in India.

Home task: A survey sheet will be distributed among the students and they will be asked to collect information from 5 families in their locality. Once the survey is conducted at individual level then the data of the class will be collated and will be represented pictorially. Survey L-1.docx


Day5: Concept of Joint family
Through interaction mode the teacher will enlighten the students about the concept of Joint family and its advantages.
The teacher will then either narrate or show a story “The Wooden bowl“to the students. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_W_mBKXaek  and carry out a discussion with an aim to sensitize the students about the ill treatment of elders in the family. And in turn adopting a value based teaching approach.
Day6: Group discussion
A group discussion will be organized in the class on the topic “Joint family a blessing in disguise”.
Home task : Read the pages 3 and 4
Day7 : Concept of Nuclear Family and its advantages and disadvantages
The session will be started by showing a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PxqMNuEqmE and the students will also be asked to make a thank you note for any one member of their family.
Through interaction mode the following concepts will be discussed with the class.
v  concept of nuclear family
v  advantages and disadvantages of nuclear family set up
v  Distinguish between Nuclear and Joint family
Written work in the notebook.
Day8: Changing family fiber in India
The teacher through storytelling and problem solving technique will enlighten the students about the factors which have resulted in the change in the family system in India. 
The teacher will then through discussion mode discuss the various factors which are responsible for this change.
A case study will further be used as a reinforcement tool for the students. Case study for lesson-1.docx

Visit to an Old Age Home:  The students will be taken to an old age home and will be made to spend some time will the elders. They will be given the leverage to carry small games with them or a token of love to give to the people they meet there. Then they will be asked to write a paragraph on the topic-” A visit to an old age home”.
