Class – VIII
Topic- Natural Resources: Land, Soil and Water
Sub-Topics- land resources, soil resources, water resources
Duration- 6 periods

Learning Outcomes:
After reading this chapter, the student will-
  • have the understanding of three important natural resources on the earth viz. Land, soil and water.
  • Be able to realize the limited nature of natural resources, thus acknowledging their responsibility as individual to conserve the same.
  • Become aware of the unplanned and unjust activities of human beings responsible for the destruction of natural resources.

Learning Objectives
The students will be able to:
  • examine the utilization of land as resource in different ways.
  • Assess the importance of soil as a resource.
  • Describe the methods to conserve soil and water.
  • Explain the various factors causing water pollution.

  1. land resources- as resource, availability, spatial distribution

  3. water resources- availability, hydrological cycle, multipurpose river valley projects,water conservation, water pollution

Teaching strategy/Methodology
explanation, discussion, demonstration via laptop/ projector, diagram practice, audio-visual

  1. The teacher will explain different land forms and land use pattern all over the world to the students.
  2. Discussion will take place on the importance of soil and the factors which affect soil formation.
  3. Students will be shown some agriculture practices like contour ploughing, terrace farming, strip cropping etc on projector.
  4. With the help of a diagram hydrological cycle will be explained to the students.
  5. World map showing distribution of rainfall in the world will be shown to the students.
