Learning Outcomes:
The Chapter aims at :
         Sensitizing the learners about the inequalities existing in the society and the condition of the underprivileged section of the society.
         Creating awareness about the Anti-poverty measures adopted by the Government in India.

Learning Objectives:
On  completion of this Unit ,the students will be able to :
         Identify the indicators of Poverty.
         Compare the condition of poverty in urban and rural India.
          Differentiate between absolute poverty and relative poverty.
         State the  meaning and criteria of poverty line.
         Enlist the causes of Poverty.
         Mention the measures  taken by the Indian Government to reduce poverty.
         Suggest measures to reduce poverty.
